How to Simplify your Makeup Routine During Pregnancy

With all the changes your body goes through during pregnancy, many women neglect to change their makeup routine during this all-important time.

Think about it - the increased level of hormones that affect your body during pregnancy can ALSO affect your skin as well!

The following guide offers helpful tips and tricks to simplify your makeup routine during pregnancy so you can look and feel your best during this special time.

Within your first trimester, you aren’t likely to want to spend 30 minutes doing your makeup in the morning. However, if you are used to wearing makeup before work, going without is likely to make you feel bare or naked. With that being said, think SIMPLE.

Take 5 minutes in the morning to do up your eyes and dab on a bit of lipstick. For an extra bit of color, apply a cream blush to your cheekbones and skip foundation. You’ll still look morning fresh without spending hours on your appearance.

If you find that your skin changes dramatically during pregnancy (i.e., it’s excessively oily or dry,) you probably need to switch your makeup tactics altogether. For dry skin, apply a good moisturizer before makeup. If you are suffering from pregnancy acne or oily skin, look for products specifically designed to combat oil and add those to your simplified makeup routine.

Also, stay away from any products that contain harsh chemicals or other ingredients that can irritate sensitive skin or complicate your pregnancy. You can even search for beauty products that are designed specifically for pregnant women to avoid worry altogether!

While taking hours to refine your appearance is unrealistic, a few minutes in the morning with a simplified makeup routine during pregnancy can work wonders for you. If you are used to wearing makeup, these tips will help you look and feel your best without spending precious time in front of the mirror!

The Real Risk of a Miscarriage

Fear of a miscarriage can be on many women’s minds when they discover they are pregnant. It’s scary, it’s traumatic and there’s no way to prepare for the emotional OR physical damage a sudden miscarriage can bring on.

According to the American Pregnancy Association, a miscarriage is the most common type of pregnancy loss. While this sounds scary, the chances are great that your pregnancy will be carried to term as only about 10-25% of pregnancies typically end with a miscarriage.

Most pregnancies occur within the first 13 weeks. After 13 weeks your real risk of a miscarriage dramatically decreases. The American Pregnancy Association explain that the most common cause of a miscarriage is a chromosomal abnormality within the baby. Other causes can include:

1. Hormonal Problems
2. Lifestyle habits
3. Incorrect implantation of the egg
4. Maternal age and/or maternal trauma

Your chances of having a miscarriage will vary depending on your age and whether you’ve had a miscarriage before. As a matter of fact, women over 45 can have up to a 50% chance of having a miscarriage. If you’ve had a previous miscarriage, the general risk of having another one is about 25%.

If you experience any of the warning signs listed here, it’s important to seek medical treatment immediately.

Miscarriages are scary and they DO happen. However, your risk of having a miscarriage is relatively smaller than you might believe. By researching your risks beforehand and the warning signs of a miscarriage, you can be more prepared if you notice something abnormal during your pregnancy.
